Notts County fans set £50,000 challenge to help club's academy

Notts County's Official Supporters Association have joined forces with academy manager Dave Plant to raise vital funds for the next generation of talent at Meadow Lane.

The NCFCOSA has helped provide a variety of equipment and transport for the academy having donated £47,800 so far.

But now they have set themselves an almighty task of raising £50,000 in one season - and Magpies fans are being asked to play their part by taking part in fund-raising activities.

The Football League only grants money to clubs relegated from the EFL for two years and with Notts failing to gain promotion from the National League in that time, that supply of cash has stopped.

Notts owners Christoffer and Alexander Reedtz have already pledged their financial support and following talks, the NCFCOSA now aims to provide further assistance after holding talks with Plant.

A GoFundMe page has already been created with the money donated being transferred to their Call For Action bank account.

That will then be passed on to the academy for whatever they need. One-off donations via GoFundMe are also welcome.

The NCFCOSA is encouraging fans to play their part by embarking on sponsored events such as a head or beard shave or a cycle ride.

A number of fundraisers will follow throughout the season, including a collection on designated match days involving Plant, his staff and players.

Notts' academy has produced several players that have joined Premier League clubs in recent years with Jack Bearne joining Liverpool, Kion Etete moving to Spurs and Dongda He completing a switch to Wolves.

Anyone requiring information on how they can donate or organize a fundraising event can contact secretary@ncfcosa.co.uk. More details can be found on www.ncfcosa.co.uk
