Notts County fans react as clash against Barnet called off due to Covid

Notts County's National League clash against Barnet has been postponed after the Bees reported a number of positive Covid cases.

Barnet also have several injuries in their squad, but despite their efforts to try to get the game on, they were forced to admit defeat having been unable to field a team.

As a result, the National League have taken the decision to postpone the clash on medical advice.

The game which had been designated as the night Notts would pay tribute to BBC Nottingham commentator Colin Slater MBE who recently died at the age of 87.

Notts have confirmed they will now honour the broadcast journalist, who is considered a legend at Meadow Lane, in their next home game against Grimsby Town.

A statement confirming the postponement read: "The National League have postponed this evening’s fixture against Barnet on medical advice following a number of positive Covid cases being reported in the visitors’ camp this morning.

"The Bees also have several injuries in their squad and, despite their strong desire to play the game and their exhaustive efforts to make enough players available, the match has been postponed.

"All tickets will be available for the rearranged date, which will be confirmed in due course. Once a new date has been set, refunds will be offered to those who can’t attend.

"We will now pay tribute to Colin Slater MBE at our next home match, against Grimsby Town on Saturday, February 5."

Notts fans have been responding to the postponement on Twitter in what is the third game Notts have had called off in the space of a month.

Here's what they had to say.

Noel Walch: "We had to forfeit our cup game against Kings Lynn when we couldn't field a team due to Covid. Why isn't the same applied to the league? We didn't have a full bench when we played Wrexham either!!!"

Sam: "I have come all the way from the Isle of Man for this one! Hopefully can get to Wealdstone away if they don’t decide to cancel last minute on us! COYP"

Andrew Briggs: "Rubbish news but at least I should be able to make any rearranged date although not sure when Notts are going to fit it in."

Karen Shaw: "Gutted we won't be able to pay our respects tonight. Hopefully, it will be carried forward to our next home match."

Alex Spencer: "Such a late postponement. Not good enough, get us out of this league."

Simon Jackson: "Don’t worry Barnet, we’ll save some goals for when you eventually come to Nottingham."
