Notts County duo score stunners as Magpies held by Boston United in friendly

Notts County duo Ben Turner and Callum Roberts both hit fabulous strikes as the Magpies were held to a 3-3 draw by Boston United at Meadow Lane.

In what is the Magpies' last friendly ahead of their play-off semi-final, Neal Ardley's side were involved in a thrilling contest against the Conference North play-off semi-finalists.

But goals from Roberts and Turner stole the show with the former lashing in from the edge of the box and the latter crashing in a thunderous left-foot strike from just inside the area.

Ardley was thrilled with the forward play, which also saw Tom Crawford score, but said there was much to work on defensively.

“People might see the result and think we have not won in two games,” he said.

Ben Turner (Dan Westwell)

“Saturday was a wake-up call for us and a good one at that.”

“This one was a really good game.  There were elements that highlighted stuff we have to be better at.

“Conceding six goals in two games isn’t great and most of the goals were poor.

“We need to cut that out or we will be playing one game.

“Going forward we were much sharper. Much more tempo, much more intensity and carved out so many good opportunities.

“It was just the final bit wasn’t there so there were loads of positives.”
