Notts County defender Matt Tootle reportedly carried off on a stretcher in Chesterfield's defeat to Yeovil

Matt Tootle  suffered a setback last night after sustaining damage to his ankle  during Chesterfield's defeat to  Yeovil.

The Notts County right-back, who is on loan at the Spireites,  was reportedly carried off on a stretcher after just nine minutes.

He was replaced by David Buchanan in the 2-1 defeat and Notts will now await an update on the severity of the injury.

Tootle only moved to Chesterfield at the end of November  having been restricted in his bid for first-team football at Meadow Lane under Neal Ardley.

The move reunited with him with former Notts boss John Sheridan but he is now under huge pressure following last night's defeat to the Glovers.

Chesterfield are without a win in seven games and are now four points adrift of safety having been tipped to be one of the promotion contenders this season.

Ironically they face Notts this weekend in the FA Trophy with the Magpies hoping to end their own stuttering form in the first-round clash.

Whether Sheridan will still be in charge remains to be seen.

Former Notts coach Mark Crossley, who is assistant at the Spireites, accepts Chesterfield's form has fell well below expectation.

“We know that four defeats on the trot at home is simply not good enough so we accept that,” he said.

“I hope so  (be given time) but you never know but that is down to one man isn’t it? But we certainly won’t be giving up.”
