Notts County confirm pitch inspection amid 'serious concern' over Chorley tie

Notts County have confirmed that a pitch inspection is set to take place this Friday afternoon ahead of Saturday's FA Trophy third-round tie against Chorley.

Freezing cold temperatures as low as -6 °C have been recorded across the city in the lead-up to Saturday's match at Meadow Lane. The ground played host to Tuesday's 2-0 win against Gateshead in the National League, but the visit of Chorley is subject to an early pitch inspection.

The Meadow Lane surface will be inspected at 4pm this Friday afternoon, the club have confirmed in a short statement on Twitter. A further statement has also been posted on the club's website, offering further detail.

In full, it reads: "Following continued extremely cold weather, a pitch inspection has been arranged for 4pm today ahead of Saturday’s ISUZU FA Trophy third-round match against Chorley."

"Temperatures have dipped below -6 degrees at Meadow Lane for two consecutive nights and there is now a significant surface frost, despite the pitch being re-covered immediately after full-time against Gateshead on Tuesday.

"With cold weather continuing into tomorrow, there is serious concern that the pitch won’t be playable and both clubs, along with the match referee, have agreed that an early inspection is sensible.

"In the event of a postponement, competition rules dictate that the match must be played next Tuesday – meaning our Vanarama National League home match against Barnet would need to be rearranged in the new year."

They add that a further inspection will follow after the inspection.
