Notts County condemned to defeat by late Bromley goal

A second-half strike from Shawn McCoulsky condemned Notts County to defeat at Bromley in a game marred by a serious injury to midfielder Jim O’Brien.

The Magpies were a goal down after just two minutes when Alfie Doughty snuck in at the back post  to meet Luke Coulson’s cross.

Notts could have conceded further goals in a poor opening with Connell Rawlinson producing  a fine block to deny Reeco Hackett-Fairchild.

But the visitors began to take control of the game midway through the half and deservedly levelled through Kyle Wootton’s third goal in as many games.

Notts then pushed for a second after the break and came close to taking the lead only for Kristian Dennis’ excellent strike to be tipped over by Mark Cousins.

Bromley had offered very little threat themselves, but McCoulsky, on loan from Forest Green Rovers, struck the winner when he drove in from the edge of the box.

Notts pushed for another equaliser but their hopes suffered a setback when O’Brien left the field needing gas and air due to an arm injury.

Once play was resumed Notts set about the task of scoring a second, but they could not find a way through the Bromley defence.
