Notts County closing in on Sunderland transfer

Notts County are set to clinch their second loan signing of the week with a move for Sunderland's Anthony Patterson.

The Magpies are hoping to announce the arrival of the highly-rated goalkeeper after Sam Slocombe was understood to have picked up a knock in training.

Patterson is well thought of at the Stadium of Light and it is believed that head coach Ian Burchnall has utilised his relationship with Sunderland's goalkeeping coach David Preece.

The pair worked together at Ostersund in Sweden before Preece returned to England.

Should the move be completed, Patterson could make his debut against Altrincham tomorrow along with Sheffield Wednesday defender Ciaran Brennan.

Brennan also arrived at Meadow Lane this week on a loan deal until November because of injuries to centre-back duo Connell Rawlinson and skipper Kyle Cameron.

Patterson has made four appearances for Sunderland this season. Two of them came in the EFL Cup and the others were in League One.

That included a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon.
