Neal Ardley yet to speak to Notts County captain Michael Doyle after midfielder was handed second red card of the season

Notts County manager Neal Ardley is yet to speak to captain Michael Doyle over his red card which marred their victory over Halifax.

The Irishman was sent off early in the second half after a tackle on Charlie Cooper which left Notts playing with 10 men for more than 40 minutes.

But Notts overcame the disadvantage in style as they registered a superb performance to take the points thanks to Kyle Wootton’s second goal in as many games.

Ardley will have another look at the Doyle incident, but should the Magpies not appeal the decision, the former Coventry ace is likely to serve a four-match ban given it was second straight red this season.

The Magpies boss was full of praise, however, for the way Notts controlled the game despite being a man down.

“I have not spoken to him  (Doyle) yet and I have not even looked at it myself,” he said.

“My first thoughts were that it was a sending off but I would have to look at it again.

“It looks like he’s won the tackle but then the follow-through was quite high.

“But obviously you fear the worst when you go down to 10 men.

“The team talk at half-time goes out the window and so we made the tweaks.

“But credit goes to the boys because they carried the instructions out to the letter.

“Because of that we got the win and it helps when your centre forwards led the line the way they did.”
