Notts County boss Neal Ardley reveals Callum Roberts doubt

Callum Roberts is an injury doubt for Notts County's FA Trophy quarter-final clash against Oxford City this weekend.

The star winger missed training on Thursday as the Magpies look ahead to the visit of David Oldfield's side to Meadow Lane where Neal Ardley's side are hoping to take another step towards Wembley.

Roberts came on as a substitute in the goalless draw against Stockport County in midweek which was a surprise given the former Newcastle winger had been expected to make his long-awaited return against City on Saturday.

But since his appearance on Tuesday, the talented winger has suffered from soreness which is to be expected given it was his first game back since November.

He has not been ruled out of facing City but would need to train on Friday for him to be included in Notts' squad.

Ardley said: "At the moment, we're not 100 per cent sure that Cal will be playing on Saturday. He is just feeling the effects of the training, and maybe being on the pitch on Tuesday.

"The problem is just in and around his thighs and his quads. He's worked so hard. He's doing a lot more ball striking, changing direction and getting the yards into his legs.

"Then he came on the other day and he's just feeling a bit heavy in his thighs.

"Sometimes you feel it and your confidence goes. You just think I'm not 100 per cent sure I can go out and strike balls.

"That's where he's at the moment. He's got to learn to trust himself again.

"He's had that many little setbacks that it plays on your mind a bit.

"We've got to respect that.

"He was a little bit sore after Tuesday night, and he's still feeling it again. So we take a step back, and if Saturday's not quite right for him, then Saturday is not quite right for him."
