Notts County boss Neal Ardley responds to 'Ardleyball' tag as fans go wild over goal

Neal Ardley says it was “very nice” to learn that his philosophy has been christened “Ardleyball” after Notts County supporters raved over their goal against Stockport in midweek.

Fans flocked to social media in response to a video of Jake Reeves’ strike in the 1-0 win on Tuesday which came after the Magpies strung 15 passes together in a move which started in defence.

Ardley feels he has one of the most technically gifted teams in the league, a view which has been shared by non-league pundits and even rival managers.

And now the fans have their own name for the brand of football they are witnessing this season and Magpies boss Ardley is pleased they are enjoying the ride.

Asked what he thought about the “Ardleyball” tag, the Notts boss joked: “I have never heard that before.

“It’s very nice, but I’m sure when it goes wrong, it will be christened forGodsakeArdleyball.

“It can be spun in good and bad ways.

“If you’re trying to pass the ball around and you keep giving it away, then it can be transferred into ‘get it forward’ we’re too tippy tappy.

“What we’ve tried to create is just a bit more of an identity and make sure that the recruitment and the players we signed fit the identity of the way we want to try and play.”
