Notts County boss Neal Ardley issues update on signings

Neal Ardley is  not expecting any further new signings in January after admitting he has already been given his wish of keeping Kyle Wootton at Notts County.

The Magpies wrapped up a deal for their top scorer on Wednesday paying an undisclosed sum to Scunthorpe to turn the forward's loan spell into a permanent move.

With Notts in a terrific position to have a crack at finishing in the National League play-offs there has been speculation that he could further bolster the squad.

But Magpies boss Ardley said that while the club are constantly scouring the market, he said he had always preferred keeping Wootton than signing anybody else.

“We are always looking but you do so just to keep your eye in for the summer and for different things that might crop up,” he said.

“Personally I am not expecting anything else.

“If you had given me a choice of a couple of players to boost the squad or keep Kyle Wootton, then my preference was to keep Kyle.

“We’ve done that and I thank the owners. In football you never say never and if something came up and the owners really liked it, then we’d look at it.”
