Notts County boss Neal Ardley gives transfer update

Neal Ardley has been frustrated in his attempts to add experience to his Notts County squad and says he is now looking for the “best young players out there”.

The Magpies boss is eager for reinforcements to help cope with a troubling injury list with a left-back and a centre forward currently on the agenda.

Injuries to defender Zoumana Bakayogo and a suspension for striker Wes Thomas have left Ardley on the lookout to help maintain the club’s chase for glory on two fronts.

But Ardley says some senior professionals in higher leagues do not  want to drop down to the National League.

Clubs are also reticent to let players leave because they cannot replace them now the transfer window is shut.

That has now left Notts  looking at highly-rated young players in order to  bolster their squad.

“We’ve worked really hard on looking at bringing players in, but it’s been tough, I am not going to lie,” said boss Ardley.

“Players that fans might want to see come to the club, we can’t afford or we are miles apart.

“There are players at leagues higher, clubs won’t let them out because they can’t bring anyone in.

“Some players don’t want to drop this low. Anyone with experience knowhow or knowledge, one by one they are being crossed off.

“We’ve ended up with our list being a lot younger, some have experience but some not so much.

“We are looking for  the best young players out there who can add quality and help keep us going.

“That’s where we are at the moment.”
