Nottinghamshire will be hotter than parts of the Canary Islands this week

Weather watchers in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire will rejoice as temperatures are set to soar to above parts of the Canary Islands this week.

Nottingham and Mansfield are both forecast to see highs of 27 degrees on Wednesday, May 20 - hotter than Gran Canaria, 25, Tenerife, 21, and the same temperature as Lanzarote.

BBC Weather forecasts a "dry and fine day" on Wednesday, with temperatures soaring during the evening between around 4pm and 6pm.

In its forecast, BBC Weather said: "It will be another dry and fine day tomorrow with lengthy spells of sunshine and light winds. Feeling noticeably warmer than today, and very warm for many."

The Met Office adds: "Any early morning low cloud fog patches soon clearing to leave a very warm and sunny day with light winds. Maximum temperature 27C."

The forecast for the rest of the week is not as warm, with the Met Office predicting more cloud and rain as the week progresses.

The outlook for Thursday to Saturday is increasing cloud, with showery rain developing.

Forecasters add: "Friday breezier and fresher, with patchy rain followed by sunny periods. Mainly dry Saturday with variable cloud."

Today is expected to bring spells of sunshine and maximum temperatures of around 21 degrees.
