Nottinghamshire train station has one of the lowest number of users in the country

A Nottinghamshire train station has been revealed as the second quietest in Britain.

Elton and Orston station only saw a total of 68 uses in the year from April 2019 to March 2020.

That is 1.3 entries or exits per week on average and makes the station one of the least used in the country, behind only Berney Arms in Broadland with 42.

The 2019/20 figure is down by a huge 59 per cent from the same period in 2018/19, when it saw 164 uses.

The Office of Rail and Road says a dramatic drop in passenger numbers happened across all British stations at the end of March.

It suggests that this most likely due to the impact of Covid-19, as lockdown restrictions advised against all unnecessary travel.

Data from ticket sales show the busiest station in Nottinghamshire was Nottingham station itself, which saw 7.9 million entries or exits during the same period.

This was 21,547 per day on average but was lower than the 2018/19 period when 8.0 million entries and exits were made.

Busiest stations in Nottinghamshire by all entries and exits:
