Nottinghamshire's R-Rate confirmed as coronavirus restrictions ease on 'Freedom Day'

Nottinghamshire's R rate remains at a level which means the coronavirus is more readily spreading among the population.

According to Nottinghamshire County Council's public health analysts the R rate, which represents the average number of people each Covid-19 positive person goes on to infect, is currently sitting between 1.1 and 1.5.

This means for every 10 people with Covid-19 it gets passed on to a further 11-15 people.

The council says for as long as R is above one, we can expect to see increasing rates and, consequently, more hospitalisations.

The current R Rate for England stands at between 1.2 and 1.4.

It comes as most legal coronavirus-related restrictions have come to an end as of July 19.

These include the mandatory need to wear a mask, an end to social distancing, and the reopening of nightclubs and large-scale events such as concerts.
