Nottinghamshire's latest coronavirus R-rate revealed

Nottinghamshire's R-rate has started to decrease, according to public health bosses.

Health officials in the county have estimated the rate of reproduction for Covid-19 currently sits at around 0.8 and 0.9.

This is taking into account the entire city and the wider county together.

England's estimated R-rate is around 0.7 to 0.9, meaning the growth rate is roughly -5% to -2% each day.

The last time the R number fell below 1 was in the week of July 31, where it ranged between 0.8-0.9.

If the R-value is at 1, it means that each person with Covid-19 is infecting one other person, on average.

Just last week Nottinghamshire's R-rate was estimated to be between 0.9 and 1.1, meaning it has dropped in the past week as of February 19.

Despite this positive news, public health bosses have urged people to stick to the rules, particularly as the city and county's rates have not dropped as substantially as the rest of the country.

Public health boss Jonathan Gribbin said: "The situation in Nottinghamshire as a whole, the rates are reducing slower than the rates in other parts of the country.

"We have to work harder as a community to achieve the same level of reduction. Right now we need to keep going with all the rules."
