Nottinghamshire renewable energy firm helps power Goodwood Festival of Speed

Renewable energy firm GeoPura has showcased its first commercial product which will provide emissions free, off-grid electricity.

The Nottinghamshire company's renewable hydrogen-based technology powered a section of this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, an annual motor racing hill climb in West Sussex.

Off-grid energy at festivals tend to be provided through large diesel generators but the GeoPura equipment offered free charging throughout for the new Honda E and Siemens' E-Chopper. It also offered clean power for visitors.

GeoPura managing director, Andrew Cunningham, said: "We were absolutely delighted to be invited to join Siemens and showcase this technology.

"Our proposition, officially launched on July 4, provides an answer to how we can generate and distribute renewable energy off grid in massive quantity.

"This proposition has many implications for festivals of the future, and more significantly is an answer to producing the vast amount of energy required to power the UK’s growing number of Electric Vehicles (EVs).

"As the number of Electric Vehicles on our roads continues to increase, GeoPura and Siemens are able to make any car park a renewable energy fuel and charging station generating 100% emissions free off-grid electricity and powering unlimited numbers of charging points.”

Geopura's model uses solar or wind energy to create a liquid hydrogen-based fuel. This fuel is then transported to various events using emissions-free tankers.

A spokesman said: "This can help power off-grid events or provide additional capacity to meet high demands. From start to finish it’s 100 percent carbon and emissions free - the only by-product is water and air – and it operates independently from the electricity network."
