Nottinghamshire pub is crowned best in the county for second year running

The Railway in Lowdham has been named the best in the county in the National Pub and Bar Awards for the second year running - the latest in an ever-growing list of awards.

The owners are now hoping for a repeat of last year, when the pub went on to scoop the East Midlands crown, or even going one step better and winning the national title.

A total of 94 pubs across the country have been declared county winners.

Two years ago Mark Osborne and David Hage gave the former drinkers' den a £400,000 revamp turning it into a stylish family-friendly gastro pub, with great beer, a unique wine list, freshly cooked seasonal food and friendly, efficient service.

Since then the Railway, which takes its name from the Nottingham-Newark line just down the road, has gone on to scoop honours on a local, county and national level, including the Best Pub accolade in the Nottinghamshire Food and Drink Awards.

Mark, who used to be a chef at Hart's and the former Riverbank Bar & Kitchen on Trent Bridge, said: "I think what makes us a winner is sticking to our ethos with menus and service. This way the customer builds confidence in our brand. Consistency is key."

The Railway has also made it through to the final 12 for Licensee of the Year in the British Institute of Innkeepers awards.
