Nottinghamshire pub closes temporarily after staff members told to isolate amid rising Covid cases

A Nottinghamshire pub has temporarily closed its doors after staff members were told to isolate amid rising coronavirus cases in the county.

Nottingham now has the highest infection rate in the country, 689.1 per 100,000 people, with a total of 2,294 cases recorded in the seven days up until October 5.

Nottinghamshire Live revealed leaked government documents stating the county would be placed into local lockdown on Wednesday, October 14.

The Carnarvon pub, in Fackley Road, Teversal, has now decided to close as a result of the dramatic increase in cases - along with some staff members being told to self-isolate through track and trace.

The decision to close has come because of a responsibility to protect its staff and customers, according to the pub.

A spokesperson for the pub said: "As a precaution therefore we feel for everyone's safety that a temporary closure of The Carnarvon will be a responsible action to take.

"Whilst our current safety procedures extend further than the guidelines we are all too aware of the multiplying cases of Covid in our area and our duty to keep you safe.

"Since reopening in July the backing from our guests has been overwhelming for which we are truly thankful and we hope our decision to temporarily close will be supported by you.

"We will of course contact everyone who has a booking with us and plan to reopen shortly. We will also keep you updated via both email and Facebook social media.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

Ashfield has seen 944 coronavirus cases in the seven days leading up to October 8.

On Thursday (October 8), a Government spokesman said: “We are seeing coronavirus cases rise across the country, but rates are increasing more rapidly in Nottingham and the surrounding county than other parts of England.

“It is vital everyone in the area follows the advice of the local authority, practises social distancing, wears a face covering where required, and gets tested if they have symptoms.

“We are constantly monitoring the data across Nottinghamshire, and, in light of rising cases, we are working hard with local leaders and public health experts to agree how best we can suppress the virus at a local level, and the local authority has our full backing and support.”
