A date is set for Pride 2021 with organisers saying they are 'confident' they can celebrate this summer.
Nottinghamshire Pride is set to go ahead on July 31, with the flexibility to move the date if needed.
Chairperson and organiser at Nottinghamshire Pride, Leigh Ellis, said: “We hope to hold our annual celebration in Hockley in a similar style to previous years.
“We are confident that we will celebrate Pride this year, but we may have to scale back some of our plans because we are a free event open to all. We still don’t know what the guidance will be around large gatherings.
“It has been really difficult to work within this ambiguity. Our supporter, Nottingham City Council, has been really helpful in guiding us through health and safety issues.
“The issue for us will be if the roadmap requires attendees at large events to show a negative Covid-19 result or if a Covid-19 passport is required. The way we celebrate Pride means that this would be impossible for us to comply with.”
Leigh added that it is important for the LGBTQ+ community to celebrate Pride 2021.
He added: “It brings us together, to share our experiences and learn from our differences. Pride is an opportunity to stand in solidarity with those in our community that have faced many struggles in the past year.
“The fight for equality remains as strong as ever and Nottinghamshire Pride is a way to do that and celebrate our fabulous, diverse, rich city and region and the opportunity that brings for all of us.”
Nottinghamshire Pride was cancelled in May 2020 as a result of the pandemic.
