Nottinghamshire players want to 'reignite' season in T20 Blast

Paul Franks does not believe Nottinghamshire's players will carry the mental scars of the scorched wasteland that is their County Championship campaign into the Vitality Blast.

Notts Outlaws would normally be seen as one of the leading contenders for the T20 trophy without question.

However, having lost seven of their 10 Division One games, all heavily, it is reasonable to query if the players carry a hangover into the first Blast game of the summer, against Worcestershire Rapids at Trent Bridge on Thursday.

Assistant coach Franks does not feel that will be the case with the team having little time to reflect on the defeat to Surrey this week.

"No, not at all," he said. "We've seen quite often that change of format to T20 frees people up to go and play.

"We've had half a season so far. The Championship has been very disappointing. No one is hiding from that.

"We had a better time of it in the Royal London One Day Cup. Now the challenge is to make the most of T20.

"The players will want this to reignite the second half of the season and people will see us as a danger in this format.

"We don't have time to lick our wounds with such a quick turnaround. That's not how cricket works.

"What we need to do is hit the ground running."

Notts' Blast team is distinctly different in terms of personnel with Australian all-rounder Dan Christian back to lead the team and Alex Hales and Harry Gurney returning to the fold as white ball only players.

Franks admits training for four-day and T20 cricket simultaneously has "been a challenge" but he feels the team is as well prepared as they can be.

Christian has an important role to play in that. The 36-year-old is held in huge esteem as a leader at the club and he can provide a fresh perspective having flown in from his homeland a couple of weeks ago.

"DC has history of success in this format," Franks said. "He's very positive.

"He'll make sure that everyone else has that mindset. He makes it clear what he expects. He leaves no stone unturned and he trusts his players."
