Nottinghamshire mum's pride after girl sets up stall to raise money for funeral flowers

A Newark mum has spoken of her pride after her daughter set up a stall to raise money for flowers at her great grandma’s funeral.

Seven-year-old Ruby-Sienna Marshall set up the stall on Quibell Road on Saturday (August 28), raising over £100 in the process.

The money is to go towards flowers for the funeral of Ruby’s great great grandma, Rosemary Bird, who passed away over the summer.

“She saw one of her cousins do a stall over the holiday to make money to go on a day out,” said mum, Leila-May Donelly, describing what inspired Ruby.

“Ruby just wanted to raise money so she could buy some flowers for her. She’s very thoughtful like that.”

Ruby sold a mixture of items at the stall, including bubble bath, hand gel and some of her siblings’ toys.

She raised £58 directly from sales, with an extra £50 coming from donations.

“I was proud,” continued Leila. “I was in the garden and she was standing there on her own at the stall.”

She also revealed that Ruby had now picked the flowers, which are ready to be delivered to the funeral.

Members of the community also praised Ruby. One Facebook user commented on Leila’s post: “What a thoughtful young lady.”

Another commented: “Aw bless her, well done. Hugs to you all.”
