Nottinghamshire message in a bottle found 550 miles away on Norway coast

Mystery surrounds the sender of a message in a bottle that was discovered on the Norwegian coast after being thrown into the sea four years ago.

Marta Skrettingland found the bottle along the coast of Norway on February 1, close to a place called Vigrestad in Rogaland, Norway.

The bottle was thrown into the English Channel in December 2015 and has made its way more than 550 miles to Scandinavia.

Initially mistaken for just rubbish, the message inside the bottle says: "Hello from the Midlands! We are a caver, a dancer, two cars, a guinea pig, and a hamster!

"Thank you for finding our message in a bottle! Sent into the English Channel on December 12, 2015".

The message is written on a postcard with a picture of Newark Castle. While there are no names given on the card, Marta is determined to find its sender.

Shocked at the discovery, the 24-year-old told Nottinghamshire Live: "Me and two friends were walking by the sea when we suddenly caught sight of a tiny glass bottle between the rocks.

"Thinking it was trash, I went over to pick it up and was surely not expecting to find a postcard inside. It really was a nice surprise.

"I live just a few kilometres from the place where we found the bottle, and have regularly walked past this site.

"When we were younger we used to search for bottles with messages inside, but of course we never found any.

"Finding this bottle was therefore very exiting, and it would be fun to get in contact with the senders.

"I guess finding the sender is almost impossible, especially since there are no names on the postcard. Anyway, I want to give it a try."
