Traders are set to return to a Nottinghamshire market with new social distancing measures, following its closure due to coronavirus
Bingham's traditional market will reopen with a limited number of traders from Thursday, April 30, offering food and essential goods only.
The move is supported by the market’s manager, who will oversee that social distancing is being carried out in line with government guidance.
The weekly market on the Buttercross square will include a new layout that allows both customers and traders to safely remain two metres apart as fresh, local food and essentials are sold.
Customers visiting the market from Thursday can find a range of fresh meat and vegetables, baked goods and healthy essentials from five of the market’s regular traders, including Farm to Fork Butchers, Belvoir Bakery, Smiths Veg, Nutty’s Wholefoods and Tony the Egg Man.
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s executive manager for transformation, Leanne Ashmore, said: “We are absolutely delighted that this much-loved local market can return safely with these changes to protect both our traders and their valued customers.
“We are pleased that local residents can continue to support local businesses and shop for essentials in the open-air in the coming weeks.
“We remain committed to adapting services where possible whilst prioritising keeping people safe in these unprecedented times.”
The council is reminding all residents to observe central government advice when leaving their homes and remain at least two metres apart from anyone not from their household.
