Nottinghamshire Indian restaurant with low food hygiene rating but five star reviews closes for good

An Indian restaurant with a poor food hygiene rating but rave reviews from customers has closed its doors for good.

After the one star rating last March an inspector called for major food safety improvements, more hygienic food handling and better cleanliness of the building and facilities at Chakh Le India, on Trent Bridge, West Bridgford.

Despite that restaurant the continued to get five star reviews with customers describing the food as top class and tasty, matched by excellent service and a cosy atmosphere. The Food Sleuth gave it a rare high score this year.

The restaurant, which opened three and a half years ago, announced its closure on Facebook saying: "We’re now finally closed permanently!

"All good things must come to an end, and so today is the end of  three and a half years of VERY good things! Thanks to all for your custom."

It's the second closure on that stretch of Trent Bridge, following last week's announcement that Southbank Bar is to shut in the New Year.

The Forest fans' favourite will re-open minus the TV screens with a refined drinks menu and improved food offering, targeting residents of the new luxury Waterside Apartments, with transformation of the former Rushcliffe Civic Centre well underway.

Chakh Le India which means "real taste of India" in Punjabi was opened by Rav Dhingra. Previously it was The Orchid Restaurant.

Customers expressed their disappointment that the restaurant has gone for good.

Paul Tuffers Armstrong said: "I'm sorry to hear this. Always a pleasure. Good luck in your future ventures."

Diane Matthews, who had been booked in for the following Saturday, posted: "How sad! Good luck for the future xx" while Chippy Chapman commented: "Wonderful food, thanks all - hope you resurface soon!"
