Nottinghamshire in talks with hot prospect Joey Evison over three-year contract

Nottinghamshire are in talks with highly rated teenager Joey Evison over a new deal.

The 17-year-old has been talked of a hot prospect at Trent Bridge for a relatively long time considering his tender years.

He was called into the first team for the ongoing County Championship game against Warwickshire, making a highly impressive 45 in the first innings of his debut.

Now Notts are in talks with his agent over what is thought to be a three-year professional contract.

Evison is an all-rounder who bowls right arm medium-fast. However, his batting has already caught the eye during his debut.

He showed no nerves in coming down the pitch to respected veteran spinner Jeetan Patel, before showing technique belying his age to quicker bowling.

Notts will now hope to convince England Under-19 international Evison, who is still a pupil at Stamford School, to sign soon.

He comes from a cricketing family with his father Gareth also winning England youth honours.

Meanwhile, former Sussex coach Mark Robinson is spending the week at Trent Bridge after leaving the England women's head coach role this summer.

"Me and Robbo go back a long way," said Notts head coach Peter Moores. "He said he wanted to come down and it's great to have him.

"We've had a few guest coaches comes down. It's just for this game, but it's great."

Moores also said Imad Wasim could miss T20 Finals Day on Saturday due to international duty.

Wasim is in Pakistan's squad to face Sri Lanka-  the first international series in Pakistan for four years - but Notts are hoping he will be released from their preparations to play at Edgbaston.

"We don't know yet. My gut feeling is it's 50/50 if they'll let him leave the international camp to play," Moores said.
