Nottinghamshire hotel owners clear up confusion over nearby wedding venue closure

The couple behind an independent Nottinghamshire hotel business have issued a statement after receiving a 'large amount' of concern over the closure of a nearby wedding venue.

A sign outside Kelham Hall near Newark, stated the popular wedding location had ceased trading and all reservations are cancelled.

The loss of the Grade 1 listed hall, owned by local businessman Jonathan Pass, has left betrothed couples heartbroken and in limbo.

But it has also sparked confusion among customers who have bookings with the similarly named Kelham House Country Manor Hotel, which is also located just a stone's throw away on the opposite side of Main Road.

Directors of Heritage Estates Hotels, Charlotte and Jon-Paul Davies, addressed the mix up on social media, also referring to their other venue, Cockliffe Country House in Burntstump Country Park near Arnold.

The couple successfully completed a £750,000 renovation of the luxury Cockliffe Country House as well as celebrating 12 years in business.

The post from June 26 read: "Good morning all,

"We wouldn’t normally do this but we’ve been receiving such a large amount of calls and emails from customers about the sad news about Kelham Hall's closure and concerns that we may be affected.

"We are an independent, family owned business that is completely separate from Kelham Hall and always has been.

"We celebrate our 12th year in business in 2021, and despite Covid having been a huge disruption are looking forward to hosting many, many weddings and events this year and beyond.

"We are coming back more strongly than ever with a great team, refreshed decor and beautifully enhanced grounds (we haven’t been sitting on our hands for the last 16 months!)

"We feel desperately sorry for the situation at the Hall, and wish everyone the best of luck in working through a very difficult set of circumstances. All the very best, Charlotte and Jon-Paul Davies."
