Nottinghamshire firefighters called to blaze involving 300 tonnes of manure in Ashfield

Firefighters were called to a farm in Ashfield after a fire broke out and set alight 300 tonnes of manure.

Crews from Ashfield and Hucknall fire stations attended the call at Grives Farm in Kirkby in Ashfield on May 9, with the "deep seated" blaze well alight on the arrival of the fire service.

The farmer at the site had put a break into the blaze to stop it from spreading, however crews decided to let the fire burn itself out.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Last night firefighters from Ashfield fire station, along with colleagues from Hucknall fire station, attended a fire at Grives Farm, Kirkby in Ashfield.

"On arrival, 300 tonnes of manure were alight. The farmer put a break into the pile to prevent it spreading while firefighters attempted to extinguish the fire.

"The fire was deep seated so it was decided to let the fire burn itself out, there may be smoke visible in the area and regular inspections will be carried out by firefighters throughout the day."
