Nottinghamshire fire crews share important message after fire rips through Retford home

These pictures show the aftermath of a fire that tore through a home.

Fire crews from Retford, Worksop, Tuxford and Edwinstowe were called out to the blaze early in the morning on Sunday, April 11.

The residents inside the property in Beehive Street, Retford, managed to escape without serious injury.

However, the flames had devastated the house, leaving the interior almost completely destroyed.

Pictures from the scene show the bathroom and living room blackened with soot and fire damage.

Retford Fire Station said they were first called at 2.45am and added : "Police and ambulance also attended.

"The fire was located in the upstairs bedroom.

"Five teams of breathing apparatus wearers were used with thermal imaging equipment, hose reels and main jets to tackle the fire.

"No one was seriously injured and the occupiers escaped unharmed.

"It is important to have working smoke alarms in homes as well as making sure you have a nighttime routine, such as switching off electric appliances, closing doors and having planned and clear escape routes."
