Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service issue update on huge Langar blaze they've fighting for more than 24 hours

Firefighters have been at the scene of a huge blaze at the Langar Airfield industrial estate for more than 24 hours.

Fire crews worked through the night since reports first came in at around 2.40pm on Thursday, May 21.

Plumes of thick black smoke made up of unidentified chemicals could be seen across Nottinghamshire and as far as Bradgate Park in Leicestershire - more than 20 miles away.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said in an update on Twitter on Friday night (May 22): "Crews will remain on scene to dampen down the fire throughout the night and into tomorrow.

"There are currently 4 appliances and 1 Aerial Ladder Platform at the incident."

The service urged people in the area to keep windows and doors shut.

Eye-witnesses also reported hearing explosions originating from the scene.

Drone footage taken at night has shown the scale of the huge fire.
