Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has submitted a planning application to build a new fire station.
The service has sent plans to Bassetlaw District Council for a new fire station in Worksop on the Vesuvius development site off Sandy Lane.
The new building will replace the existing station in Eastgate, which was built in 1963.
It is being designed with the latest in renewable technology and would self-generate up to 50 percent of its energy needs, the fire service said.
The site will include a training tower, a generator and a fuel store.
Worksop's current station is staffed by both full-time and on-call firefighters and they will all move to the station when it is operational.
The Fire Authority has been working on the plans for the past year and the new station is expected to open in October 2022.
Chief Fire Officer, John Buckley, said: “The new station at Worksop is part of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service’s long-term strategic plan to replace ageing and expensive-to-run accommodation for our firefighters.
"It will be built to the same high, energy-efficient standard as the other stations we have built in recent years and will make it easier and cheaper to run.”
Chairman of the Fire Authority, Councillor Michael Payne, added: “I am pleased that our plans for the new station are progressing. This investment demonstrates clear commitment to the communities of Bassetlaw as we build a station that will meet the current and future needs of the Service.
"I look forward to seeing the building becoming a reality and to the day when firefighters can move in and continue to deliver excellent services to communities for decades to come.”
Fire Authority Member Councillor Sybil Fielding said: “As the local councillor for the area, I am delighted that the people of Bassetlaw will be receiving this much-needed investment and I welcome the proposals.”
