A Nottinghamshire cricket club chairman has been left devastated after their nets were vandalised causing £3,000 worth of damage.
The club's improved equipment had only been used a handful of times by players across the community after they were delivered at the start of the month.
The metal tubing has been bent after reports of people swinging on the equipment.
Edwinstowe Cricket Club chairman Mike Wigglesworth said: "The club spent last year planning and fund-raising to improve facilities for nurturing young cricketing talent in our village. And despite the pandemic, they reached their target.
"The new nets are worth about £3,000. The club took delivery of them a fortnight ago and today, they were in a sorry state, bent and buckled out of shape.
"It looks like people were swinging from them and pushed right over causing extensive damage and it will be costly to repair.
"We are appealing to anyone who has any information to contact the police immediately."
Nottinghamshire Police are investigating a report of criminal damage to a cricket club's equipment.
Officers were called to Edwinstowe Cricket Club on 14 April 2021 following a report that their cricket nets had been damaged overnight.
Police Constable Graham Whitehead of Nottinghamshire Police is leading the investigation. He said: "It's hugely disappointing to see the club's brand new equipment destroyed so quickly, especially after brilliant work by the whole community organising the funds.
"We are keen to help the community find out who did this.
