Nottinghamshire country park closures due to weather conditions

Some of the country's popular visitor attractions have been forced to close due to adverse weather conditions.

Sherwood Forest has had to temporarily close its main car park and visitor centre as snow falls across the county and an amber weather warning put in place.

The site, which is operated by the RSPB, will be monitored throughout the day and only open "when it is safe to do so".

There is some limited parking at another site but people have been advised to try to stay local for exercise.

A tweet from the RSPB Sherwood Forest account said: "Due to the weather our main car park remains closed, we will monitor throughout the day and only open when it is safe to do so.

"Limited parking is available next to the blue hut on Forest Corner. Please stay local and close to home for exercise. Stay safe everyone!"

Nottinghamshire County Council also tweeted: "Snow update from Sherwood Forest. Due to snow falling across Nottinghamshire, the main car park at Sherwood Forest has been temporarily closed to ensure the safety of staff and visitors."

Rufford Abbey Country Park has also closed both the site and its car park to visitors.

Holme Pierrepont Country Park also remains closed to visitors due to rising water levels on the River Trent.

The park's website states: "Due to rapidly rising river levels and flooding, the Country Park, activity areas and their car parks are now closed to all visitors."

Motorists have been warned about the 'treacherous' conditions on Nottinghamshire roads after a number of crashes in the space of a few hours.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service says it has "attended lots of RTCs already" on the morning of Monday, February 8.

Heavy snow is expected to fall all day with freezing temperatures that could 'feel' like -7C.
