Nottinghamshire and city coronavirus cases soar as more than 740 recorded in 24 hours

Nottingham and the wider county has recorded a total of 743 cases of coronavirus in the 24 hours to October 31.

The news comes as the Government today said a further 326 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19. That increase brings the UK total to 46,555.

As of 9am today, officials said there had been a further 21,915 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK. That brings the total number of cases in the UK passing one million to 1,011,660.

In Nottingham there are now a total of 11,435 cases, an increase of 268 new cases - almost double the previous 24 hours.

Nottinghamshire recorded 475 new cases, bringing its total to 14,177.

The soaring figures come just a day after the city and county was plunged into Tier 3 restrictions.

Here is the breakdown for each borough and district:

Total number of cases recorded since start of pandemic and in the last 24 hours (in brackets):

Ashfield  - 2,073 (increase of 76)

Bassetlaw  -  1,877 (increase of 88)

Broxtowe  - 2,231 (increase of 60)

Gedling   - 2,290   (increase of 57)

Mansfield   - 1,593 (increase of 63)

Newark and Sherwood   - 1,749 (increase of 48)

Nottingham 11,435 (increase of 268)

Rushcliffe   - 2,357 (increase of 83)

The number of people infected with the coronavirus has doubled in Mansfield over the space of seven days, according to new figures.

The latest rolling seven-day rate of new cases of Covid-19 for every local authority area in England paints a picture of whether the virus is increasing or slowing down.

In Mansfield, there were 232 new cases in the seven days to October 19, but this has now rocketed to 412 new cases in the seven days to October 26.

The figures are based on tests carried out in laboratories and in the wider community.
