Nottinghamshire all-rounder Samit Patel joins Glamorgan on loan

Samit Patel will play for a county other than Nottinghamshire for the first time after joining Glamorgan on loan.

The former England all-rounder has spent his whole career at Trent Bridge, but after scoring 258 runs at an average of 17.20 this season, he has lost his place in the County Championship team to face Yorkshire this weekend, having already been left out of the side previously.

Patel, 34, has joined the Division Two side for the remainder of the summer, although he can be recalled after their game Lancashire, which gets underway on Sunday.

Patel, who remains available to play Twenty20 cricket for Notts, joins Glamorgan after being told he will not play for Notts in the Championship this weekend.

"Knowing in advance that I'm set to miss out on selection for Scarborough has given Glamorgan time to come for me on a loan deal," he said.

"I'll keep giving it everything for Notts in the Blast, so overall I'm forward to a positive end to the season across both formats."
