Nottingham Wetherspoon's pub excels in Loo of the Year Awards

A Wetherspoon's pub in Nottingham city centre is flushed with success. The Roebuck Inn in St James Street has been awarded a platinum plus rating in this year's Loo of the Year Awards.

The awards are aimed at highlighting and improving standards of toilet provision across the UK. Inspectors made unannounced visits to thousands of loos at venues across the country in order to judge them.

The toilets are judged against numerous criteria, including cleanliness, accessibility, décor and maintenance, and hand washing and drying equipment. All of the toilets are graded silver, gold, platinum, platinum plus or diamond - with unacceptable toilets not graded at all.

Of the platinum plus rating, Roebuck Inn manager Alex Darby said: "We are delighted with the award. Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in excellent condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors."

In total, 15 Wetherspoon pubs in and around Nottingham have won acclaim in the Loo of the Year Awards 2022. The Joseph Else in South Parade, the Free Man in Carlton Street, and the Gooseberry Bush in Peel Street, all in Nottingham, as well as the Admiral Sir John Borlase Warren in Derby Road, Stapleford, the Woodthorpe Top in Woodthorpe Drive, Mapperley, the Lady Chatterley in Nottingham Road, Eastwood, the William Peverel in Main Street, Bulwell, the Butler Cross in Market Place, Bingham, and the Pilgrim Oak in High Street, Hucknall, have each been awarded a platinum rating.

Meanwhile, the Samuel Hall in Mansfield Road, Lloyds No. 1 Bar in Carlton Street, and the Trent Bridge Inn in Radcliffe Road, all in Nottingham, together with the Ernehale in Nottingham Road, Arnold, and the Last Post in Chilwell Road, Beeston, have each been awarded a gold rating.

Loo of the Year Awards managing director Becky Wall said: "The toilets at the 15 pubs have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained. The pubs deserve their awards."
