Nottingham Urgent Treatment Centre shuts temporarily as coronavirus ‘precaution’

A city urgent care centre which treats more than 100 patients every day has temporarily closed as a ‘precautionary measure’ because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The Urgent Treatment Centre in City Link , just off London Road, provides medical support for urgent - but not life-threatening - illnesses and health problems.

On a weekday around 180 patients are seen to, while on weekends more than 200 can be treated during a busy period.

It is operated by CityCare, a not-for-profit company which provides NHS services, and the organisation today (March 19) said the centre would temporarily close.

The centre offers a walk-in service and in 2015 an x-ray machine was introduced, but these services will now be stopped as a result of the closure.

Nottingham CityCare said a ‘limited replacement service’ will be available, adding: “Our Urgent Treatment Centre is temporarily closed as a precautionary measure.

“We have a limited replacement service at Boots, Victoria Centre. X-rays will not be available.

“If you have a high temperature and new continuous cough, please self-isolate and follow government guidance.”

Nottingham’s hospitals, including the Queen’s Medical Centre and City Hospital, have also introduced stricter visiting hours.

This includes prohibiting anyone under the age of 16 from visiting and limiting the number of visitors to just two people per patient.

It comes after the number of cases in Nottinghamshire increased to 42, with two deaths.
