Nottingham Trent University joins with Santander to offer apprenticeship degree

Nottingham Trent University has been selected to deliver Santander's degree-level programme for the bank's new apprentices.

The institution, named the Guardian's University of the Year 2019, will become the group's primary apprenticeship partner as it launches the digital and technology solutions degree.

The Santander course begins in October and there are plans to look at future schemes in 2020.

Professor Edward Peck, Vice-Chancellor of Nottingham Trent University said: “Our apprenticeship offer at NTU is going from strength to strength and we have more than 500 apprentices with us currently.

"We are delighted to be able to build on this and become the official apprenticeships partner of Santander. We greatly value our existing relationship with Santander Universities which has benefited students and graduates and now look forward to welcoming their apprentices to our campuses.”

The two organisations have had a partnership since 2012, with the bank providing NTU with support that has benefitted more than 1,000 students.

NTU was selected to become the apprenticeships partner following a "rigorous tender process".

Vicky Wallis, chief HR officer at Santander said: “We recognise that apprenticeships offer people an alternative route into a banking career other than the traditional graduate path.

"This helps attract talent from all walks of life and ensures the financial services sector as a whole better reflects the communities we serve.  We are delighted to be broadening our partnership with Nottingham Trent University to offer inspiring learning whilst developing critical digital skills across the bank."
