Nottingham Trent University couple expanding business to USA after Dragon's Den success.

A couple who met at Nottingham Trent University and impressed on Dragon's Den are now looking to expand their business to the US.

Charlotte Bailey, 24, and Sean Ali, 28, graduated from NTU back in 2016 - Charlotte completing a law degree while Sean studied business management.

The pair took their Super U food brand before the dragons on an episode which aired last month, impressing and receiving offers from all five dragons.

Sean and Charlotte, who now lives in South Shields, were in their final year of studying at the university when they thought of the idea for their product.

At the time, Charlotte was still struggling with severe fatigue and digestive issues, after being diagnosed with Coeliac Disease.

So, the couple decided to take matters into their own hands and design a product to help with her condition.

Sean was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma two years later.

Charlotte previously told Nottinghamshire Live: "One year into starting the business, we discovered Sean had blood cancer. As a young, healthy, 26-year-old, it couldn't have been more of a shock.

"But we didn't stop, despite it being the most challenging six to eight months of our lives. Because of what we have been through, it was just unbelievable to receive the offers we did from the dragons - it's hard to put it into words. It made it even more special."

After appearing before the dragons - and negotiating a joint deal with Tej Lalvani and Peter Jones for a £50,000 investment in return for 6% equity in the business - Super U has gone from strength to strength.

The pair are set to nearly triple it's 2020 turnover and are at a predicted turnover of £1.4 million for 2021.

Sean and Charlotte are now planning to expand into the US later this year.

They will initially trade through their website and Amazon USA and are in talks with several e-commerce fulfilment centres based in California to fulfill website orders and send bulk stock to Amazon US.
