Nottingham tram delays: New image shows cause of disruption after overhead lines 'pulled down'

Some of Nottingham's trams remain disrupted into a second day after overhead power lines were pulled down.

The incident occurred just before 11am on Wednesday, August 11, and service delays have carried over into a second day.

According to a Facebook post on the 'Trams Around the World' page, a tram suffered a snapped pantograph (the device which sits at the top of a tram to conduct electricity from the overhead lines) which then resulted in a section of power cable being pulled down.

The damage to the tram and overhead lines occurred underneath the Church Street bridge in Basford.

The post has since been confirmed as being correct by tram operator NET.

A spokesman said the cause of the disruption was due to "damage to overhead lines" and an investigation is now underway.

He added NET is working to resume normal service as soon as possible.

Services will either terminate at The Forest or Bulwell throughout Thursday morning, August 12. There is no indication yet of when a normal service will resume.

Commuters are being advised that NCT buses and East Midlands Railway are accepting NET tickets as engineers work to resolve the problem.
