Nottingham takeaway closes until September to give staff a break

An award-winning Nottingham takeaway has closed for two months to give staff a well-earned break from serving pizza, kebabs and burgers. When it reopens in September, Jimbos, in Lenton will celebrate its fifth birthday.

The fast food shop usually stays open till 3am, serving locals, students, emergency service workers and night-time staff from the nearby Queen's Medical Centre. While closed the business, in Abbey Street, will get a mini refurbishment and a new-look menu.

Owner Ash Mehmood said: "Our team have shown the commitment and hard work, having to work unsocial hours, late nights and we felt they deserved a break. Staff are off unpaid but we gave them bonuses.

"It also gives us the chance to refurb and freshen the place up to maintain our five star standards. We're looking forward to another five years and hopefully a few more awards to add to our growing collection."

Jimbos, named Fast Food Business of the Year for Nottingham in 2018 by high-end lifestyle magazine Lux, and a finalist in the 2022 Food Awards England, will reopen on Thursday September 1.
