Nottingham singer picked from hundreds for chance to play with chart-topping rock band

Hand-picked from hundreds of hopefuls, Nottingham singer Myles Knight is in the running to join rock giants Biffy Clyro for a one-off arena show - and he's so close he can basically smell the Buckfast.

Tomorrow, (August 22) he will battle it out with bands from across the country at O’Neill’s, off Old Market Square, as he competes for a £1,000 cash prize and the chance to play alongside the Scottish heavyweights.

After a nationwide search, the Irish pub chain narrowed down hundreds of applicants to a handful of regional finalists, as they hunt for the UK’s best new act as part of their Sound of Summer music competition – and Myles is one of those taking part.

Having triumphed in his local heats he will now be competing at one of the six regional finals taking place at O’Neill’s pubs across the country - and locals are invited to go down and show their support.

The five acts will take it in turns to perform at O’Neill’s, in Beastmarket Hill, on Thursday August 22, with the lucky winner taking home a £1,000 cash prize.

They will then go on to battle it out with the five other regional winners from across country in the grand final, before the panel of expert judges crowns the national winner who will secure a three-date UK tour culminating in the opportunity to support chart-topping Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro at this year's Jack Daniel’s Presents event at Digbeth Arena on October 17.

James Ireson, marketing manager at O’Neill’s, says: “We were overwhelmed by the number of entries we had for Sound of Summer this year and this is definitely set to be our biggest one yet!

“The standard of this year’s entrants is higher than ever before we’re so excited to be giving upcoming   artists the incredible opportunity to perform alongside Biffy Clyro.”
