Nottingham shoppers feel 'ripped off' over skyrocketing food shopping prices

People have voiced their frustration and said they feel 'ripped off' after major changes affected Nottingham's shopping scene.

Residents said they can barely afford to do their weekly shopping in the city centre with many calling for change.

It comes after Aldi announced its permanent closure and Tesco in Victoria centre has been converted into an Express.

Regulars said there are only 'posh and expensive supermarkets' left in the city centre with many struggling to fill up their baskets.

Gabriella Olah said on Facebook: "Agreed. It's ridiculous.

"All we have is posh and expensive supermarkets. Why they won't open Iceland for example.

"This city slowly turning into ghost town with expensive shops only.

"We do need more choices. It is ridiculous."

Other online readers have echoed shoppers' concerns about the rise in prices.

Ashley Dean added: "For me I have just bought a pack of spaghetti for 20p, bottle of mayo for 40p, pack of ham on sale for 86p, that will feed me for 3 days.

"But that's no frills, not much nutrition just basic for a single person."

Others have launched theories over the 'ridiculous' charges.

Polly Labbate said: "People voted for Brexit, now you have to pay for it.

"What did people think was going to happen? Now everyone's having to suffer."

In the middle of the storm, other readers suggested that now is the time to support the local economy and save money by buying from British manufacturers.

Paul Gibson added: "Buy the products that are grown or manufactured here - shop in British shops."

Jay Lewin also said: "Town prices, shop locally."
