Nottingham's St Patrick's Day parade is cancelled - but the celebrations aren't totally off

It will come as no surprise that the annual St Patrick's Day gathering in Nottingham is cancelled this year due to the Covid restrictions.

The craic is on hold for a second year with no music, song, literature or dance in Old Market Square, no copious pints of Guinness in pubs, and no revellers dressed up like leprechauns and wearing shamrock hats on March 17.

Apart from the Council House being lit up green, there will be nothing happening in the city.

However, the celebrations aren't totally off and revellers can enjoy the day, commemorating the patron saint of Ireland, at home.

Nottingham's Raglan Road - voted one of the top ten Irish pubs in the UK - will be doing a food and drink menu from 11am to 8pm, delivering freshly poured pints of Guinness to homes.

Irish breakfasts for takeaway will be served by the pub, which is based in Derby Road, near Canning Circus.

Irish stew, beef and Guinness pie, chips and McDonnell Irish curry sauce and tayto crisps sandwiches are also on the menu, with giveaways of T-shirts and hats with every order from Jameson Irish Whiskey and Guinness.

Kezia Gill will be singing Irish tunes live at 7pm from the bar's Facebook page.

Entertainment manager Ged Dowling said: "We're gutted we can't be open on this day. It's a ritual to hit up the Bell and Raglan Road and have a huge party."

Food can be ordered from Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats or call Raglan Road on 0115 9583359

The annual St Patrick's Day mass will be taking place at Our Lady and St Patrick’s Church in The Meadows.

The church can hold 51 people under social distancing rules, and places must be booked online at massbooking.uk. Anyone unable to attend can watch it afterwards on YouTube.
