Nottingham's 'Punching Preacher' Derrick Osaze claims Ultimate Boxer III crown

Derrick Osaze banked around £16,000 after clinching the Ultimate Boxer III crown, following a series of brilliant performances in London.

Hailing from Peckham, but now living in Nottingham, the middleweight dubbed the ‘Punching Preacher’ had to see off three opponents in the competition which saw eight boxers go head to head.

Screened live on BT Sport, and fought over 3 x 3 minute rounds, Osaze was backed by a huge following and did not disappoint in the highlight of his career so far.

Osaze overcame Tey Lynn Jones in his first bout helped by a devastating right hand  in the second round which secured him the points win.

He then followed that up with another excellent display by defeating pre-tournament favourite Keiron Conway in the semi-final.

But in what was a dream night for the 25-year-old, he overcame Grant Dennis in the final, securing a majority decision helped by a third-round knockdown.

Speaking afterwards, a delighted Osaze said: “I’ve worked  and trained too hard for this.

“Everybody said I wasn’t meant to be here, but I knew from the beginning that  I was going to win.

“They said I wasn’t the favourite, but I don’t care about odds  - I am standing victorious.

“I’ve got to thank my family and friends for the support. I want to thank my coach Barrington Brown and Jimmy Gill my manager.

“They’ve made me the boxer I am today.  I don’t think I boxed as great as I wanted to, but we got the victory.”
