Nottingham's Corrie actor Chris Gascoyne parties with Johnny Depp

Corrie stars and Hollywood actors don't often go hand in hand - but one soap regular may have just changed that.

Nottinghamshire's Chris Gascoyne, who plays Peter Barlow in Coronation Street, has confused us all this week by sharing a photo of himself looking rather friendly with Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The 51-year-old, who grew up in Huthwaite and trained at Nottingham's Television Workshop, posted a snap on his Instagram page of him posing up a storm with Johnny.

Chris gave no indication to how the pair knew each other or where they were, leaving the caption option completely blank.

But it hasn't stopped fans going crazy over the unlikely friendship.

"This has made MY DAY," commented one enthused follower.

Another said: "Wow my 2 fave actors in the same photo."

"That's one night out I would have liked to have been on," a third said.

Others however have come up with the idea that Johnny swaps the American lifestyle for that of the Corrie cobbles.

"Is he gonna be making an appearance in Corrie?," questioned one.

Nottingham actress Cassie Bradley is back in Coronation Street as Natalie - and here's what she had to say

Whilst another said: "Wait... Is Jonny making a cameo on Corrie!?!"

Could you see Captain Jack Sparrow himself making an appearance in Wetherfield?

We think maybe a trip to David and Nick's new barbers, a fancy meal in the Bistro or a shift in the Rovers should just about cut it.

Over in the  ITV  soap, Peter has been facing a difficult time after he relapsed, hitting the bottle after partner Carla Connor suffered a mental breakdown and went on the run.

This week, viewers will see him preparing to bring the Underworld factory boss home after Carla returned to friend Roy Cropper's flat.
