Nottingham's Calcutta Club owners open new Indian restaurant Maharaja's Retreat

A new Indian restaurant will be adding to the delicious curry aroma wafting down Nottingham's Maid Marian Way from today.

An off-shoot from Calcutta Club, five doors down, The Maharaja's Retreat is promising a high-end experience with starters such as swordish malai tikka and boti padina, lamb fillet infused with fresh mint, black pepper, ginger and garlic, and mains of murgh nihari (slow-cooked chicken thigh), butter chicken and Kashmiri rogan josh.

The property, which used to be known for for its drinks as Chambers and the Bear and Lace, was transformed earlier this year when it became 70-seat seafood restaurant The Yacht Club.

It opened in March but closed in April.

Owner John Dhaliwal said: "The interior has changed to accommodate The Maharaja's Retreat. The menu is on par with Calcutta Club but our menu is unique to ourselves. The pricing structure is at the same level."

It is said the Maharajas, India's wealthy bejewelled rulers, were big about their food and the new restaurant vows to make every visit "memorable and fit for a king."

The Maharaja's Retreat will be open from 5pm.
