Nottingham's brand-new e-scooters spotted in city centre for first time

Major work has been under way to bring the brand-new e-scooters onto Nottingham's streets - and we took a sneak peek to see what they're like.

It comes as WIND, the company which operates the e-scooter scheme in the city, has revealed the current model operating in Nottingham will be replaced with the "industry-leading" LINK e-scooter from Superpedestrian.

The neon yellow and grey LINK e-scooters will be rolled out this week - with the switch of the fleet being completed by Friday (December 17), WIND announced.

The brand-new e-scooters will look a lot different featuring a range of major changes in a bid to boost safety for users and general public.

The footboard of the new riding devices is 20 percent wider and 9 percent longer than industry convention to make for a more stable ride.

The chassis has been specifically designed to protect the battery from weather and vandals, and solid tyres stand up to frequent use without damage.

The suspension has been tested to withstand at least one million bumps, according to the company.

An integrated bicycle-style bell helps alert others to the scooter’s presence, and a triple-braking system helps riders safely stop in all weathers.

In addition to this, the minimum age to rent e-scooters in Nottingham has been raised to 18 years old, to bring the scheme in the city into line with other major UK locations, including London.

The Wind app will no longer be available for use and users will have to download the LINK app to continue using the service, and any existing app wallet balances will be automatically refunded.
