Nottingham's Banksy mural unveiled at exhibition more than 100 miles away

The iconic Bansky mural which appeared in Radford last year has been unveiled in an art exhibition more than 100 miles away in Suffolk.

The piece featuring a hula-hooping girl was claimed by the anonymous artist after it appeared outside Avi Hair and Beauty Salon, on the corner of Ilkeston Road and Rothesay Avenue.

But the mural was later cut from a wall and sold to the Brandler Galleries in Brentwood, upsetting neighbours.

The piece has been moved to the Moyse's Hall Museum, in Bury St Edmunds, in an exhibition launching on Sunday (May 23).

It will run until September 30 and the opening weekend is sold out.

A statement on the museum's Facebook page states the exhibition is "of national significance", including "no less than eight original works by Banksy".

The artwork appeared in Nottingham at a time when the city was grappling with the worst coronavirus infection rate in the country.

Many people said it had inspired a bit of hope within the community.

But in February the building owners revealed they had sold it to the Brandler Galleries in an exclusive interview with Nottinghamshire Live.

The artwork also featured a broken bicycle tied to a street sign with a missing wheel, which some believe referenced the former Raleigh factory nearby.

Locals said Banksy had chosen Nottingham for a reason, and emphasised it should have remained in the city.
