Nottingham restaurant, which counted Cliff Richard as a fan, announces permanent closure

A popular Nottingham restaurant has announced its permanent closure after more than a decade in the city leaving customers saddened by the news.

Tarn Thai, in George Street, signed off with the briefest of messages on Facebook saying: "Bye bye from Tarn Thai. Much love to all our lovely customers. We are now closed permanently...."

Sir Cliff Richard ate at the restaurant in Hockley before his sell-out show at Nottingham's Royal Concert Hall in 2018 and spent three hours there with friends.

It wasn't his first visit either as Sir Cliff also visited the restaurant run by William Amerena and his wife Debbie on his previous tour.

The restaurant also wowed the judges of the Nottinghamshire Food and Drink Awards in 2016, when it was named runner-up for best Asian restaurant.

Diners were dismayed by the news of its closure.

One said: "I'm very sorry to hear this. Tarn Thai is my favourite Thai restaurant. Gorgeous relaxing ambience, fantastic food and the staff were always so kind an accommodating. We will miss you."

Another said: "So sorry to hear you are closing. I have some very fond memories of meals with my family at your lovely restaurant. Best wishes for all of your future endeavours and thank you all for your service."

The premises won't be empty for long though. A new Thai venue will be opening in a few weeks under new ownership.
